Country code+44
Mobile format07 followed by 9 digits (11 digits nationally, +44 7xxx xxxxxx). Ofcom designates 071–075 and 077–079 for mobile; 070 is for personal numbers and 076 for paging.
Example+44 7700 900123 (Ofcom keeps 07700 900000 to 900999 for drama and fiction.)
Main carriersEE (BT), Virgin Media O2, VodafoneThree. Vodafone UK and Three UK completed their merger on May 31, 2025.
Number portabilityNumbers move between networks with a PAC code within one working day, so the 07 prefix does not identify the network.
Prepaid SIM ruleNo registration or ID check is required for pay-as-you-go SIMs. The last government statement we found (Home Office, 2010) ruled out a mandatory scheme; it has not been re-confirmed for 2026.
VoIP numbersYes. Ofcom set aside 056 numbers for location-independent (VoIP) services in 2004; geographic 01 and 02 numbers can also carry VoIP. A UK 07 number points to a mobile service.

What should I know about UK numbers?

In the UK the number itself carries the answer: a +44 7 number belongs to the mobile range, while internet telephony uses 056 or ordinary landline codes. Services that only accept mobiles can therefore filter UK numbers on the prefix alone, which makes a SIM-based 07 number the practical choice.

Pay-as-you-go SIMs need no registration in the UK, which keeps supply simple. In October 2026 UK WhatsApp codes were listed at $1.80 on SMSPool and $0.70 on 5SIM (whose numbers are labelled virtual).

Frequently asked questions

Do UK numbers start with 07?

Yes. UK mobile numbers are 07 plus 9 digits nationally, or +44 7 plus 9 digits internationally. Type them into apps in the +44 7… form.

Which UK network will my number be on?

It can be EE, Virgin Media O2, VodafoneThree or a reseller on their networks. Because of number porting, the prefix does not tell you which.

Is a non-VoIP number always accepted?

No. A non-VoIP number is classed as mobile in carrier databases, which most sign-up forms accept, but each service sets its own rules and can still refuse a number. If that happens, cancel the order and the price goes back to your balance.

Do I need to verify my identity?

No. RealSIM Numbers asks for no ID, no selfie and no documents: an email and a password open an account. The acceptable use policy still applies to every order.
